Moduretic is a prescription medication that can be used for treatment of different conditions, including hypertension. Usually, it requires at least several weeks to experience all the benefits from this drug. Moduretic contains amiloride and hydrochlorothiazide, both of which are diuretics.
Indications and Uses
Thanks to its ability to lower high blood pressure, Moduretic helps prevent the occurrence of a range of severe health conditions, such as preventing strokes, heart attacks and kidney problems. It can also be used for treatment of edema. The main aim of this drug is to help your body get rid of extra salt and water. Thanks to this, the amount of urine increases. Amiloride is also responsible for preventing the reduction of low blood potassium levels.
How to Use It
This medicine is taken 1-2 times a day with food. If you use it before going to bed, you may need to wake up at night to urinate due to the increase in the amount of urine. That is why it is recommended to use this medication at least four hours before going to sleep.
Your dosage will be determined by your healthcare provider based on different factors. Take Moduretic only as it is prescribed. In order to obtain the most benefits from the drug use, you should administer it regularly. One tablet of Moduretic contains 50 mg of hydrochlorothiazide and 5 mg of amiloride. The initial dosage is one tablet a day, which can be gradually increased up to two tablets a day. Do not change the dosage yourself as only your healthcare provider can know if you need to take a higher dose.
Warning and Precautions
The medication is not suitable for people who have an allergic reaction to at least one of its components. To take it safely, you should tell your healthcare provider if you have any of the following conditions:

There are 783 medications that can interact with Moduretic. You should not use it along with the following drugs:
Potassium supplements, potassium-sparing diuretics or salt substitutes containing potassium;
Colestipol or cholestyramine;
Certain chemotherapy medicines;
Lithium, diazoxide or nondepolarizing neuromuscular blockers;
Diabetes medications and others.
